''Jenny From The Block'' is the first single from Jennifer's third album, ''This Is Me...Then''. It features rappers Jadakiss and Styles from L.O.X.. The song was released in September 2002 after the song leaked on the internet and then started gaining airplay on the radio. The was plucked from the Internet by a pop station in Hartford, Connecticut, and later distributed to other stations owned by Infinity Broadcasting. (Source)

The song was written by Jennifer Lopez, Troy Oliver, mrDEYO, Samuel Barnes, Jean-Claude Olivier, Fernando Arbex, Lawrence Parker, Scott Sterling, Michael Oliver. The song was produced by Cory Rooney, Troy Oliver, Poke & Tone.

INSPIRATION
At the time, Jennifer said, "People are confused about who I am - is she just this girl from the Bronx who made good or maybe it's all a lie and she's a horrible diva. I felt like addressing that. I didn't write 'Jenny from the Block' but it's very me. The writers had seen me being interviewed on Oprah and I think people got a sense of who I was."

VIDEO
The music video, directed by Francis Lawrence, features Lopez and then-boyfriend Ben Affleck. The video has a voyeuristic feel, as it depicts their life from a paprazzi's point-of-view. It plays with the notion of the media's intrusion in their lives as well as the assumptions made from misleading, but innocent photos.
