Released in 2002, from the album J to tha L-O: The Remixes, the single peaked at #18 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart. It did not chart on the Billboard 100, due to it's limited release. However, the song's Thunderpuss remix topped the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart and became another Hot Dance Club Play hit for Jennifer, peaking at number two.

Alive was written by Jennifer, Cory Rooney, and then-husband Cris Judd for the soundtrack to Jennifer's film Enough. The song was featured during the closing credits of the film. Following the themes of the film, the song describes the struggles of abused women, who are able to overcome their abusive husbands and make it out alive.

On an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, after Jennifer performed. a woman approached Jennifer and explained how that song kept her going even after the abuses she endured. Watch the performance here:
