Oh, yeah I agree...just for CBS itself this is not a good start. Hopefully this doesn't affect the amount of money they spend on promo for TBUP. But yeah for Jen and TBUP April will most likely be a much better time.

yeah and from the article they seemed to have spend a lot of money for this one or maybe not that much since their advantage is that they can advertise on their tv channel, CBS, HBO, Showtime, the CW and their radios too.

Hopefully its good for TBUP so they spend more to make sue its a hit, but $2m is terrible. I think I would die if Jen got that it would be lower than EC.

It's funny that the new releases weren't really that huge. I thought Legion and Book of Eli would have done better. But Avatar is still kicking ass.

Meanwhile, the debut from CBS Films, “Extraordinary Measures,” also slightly exceeded its pre-release forecast at $7 million. Budgeted at around $31 million, however, this was hardly happy news for Les Moonves’ new film division, which chose to make a heavy drama about a medical researcher (Harrison Ford) who tries to saving a desperate dad’s (Brendan Fraser) dying children.

Despite solid word-of-mouth evidenced by an A-minus Cinemascore grade, CBS Films executive VP of distribution Steven Friedlander conceded it has been challenging to convince “Americans to see a movie about a guy trying to save his dying children.”

However, the movie played well enough in the Heartland, he noted, to provide CBS Films officials some hope of reaching the black. “If you look at the Rentrak map and you compare it to the 2004 Presidential campaign, we’re the red states,” Friedlander said.

He also believes the division’s business plan of leveraging CBS’ broad promotional assets, which include everything from outdoor to radio to gas-station kiosks, showed its potential.

“We got a lot of bang for our buck,” Friedlander added. “CBS was very supportive of us.”

In any event, he said he’s hoping for better results when CBS Films rolls out Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy “The Back-up Plan” in April.

“A romantic comedy will make it easier for us to get into the marketplace,” Friedlander said.

I think TBUP will do a solid $20 mill opening weekend.

The A- CinemaScore makes me believe that the test audiences DID really like it.

CinemaScore's forecasts for box-office receipts based on the surveys are "surprisingly accurate" as "most of [the company]'s picks . . . are in the ballpark", in 2009 correctly predicting the success of The Hangover and the failure of Land of the Lost

i guess not then.

but i looked at other grade, it is quiet accurate, lost of the time i wonder how much TBUP got.

i think TBUP will make anywhere from 16-20mil on the first weekend. but with really good promo i think it will make 20-24mil its looks pretty funny. i dont know how i feel about them putting too much of the real jennifer on her character. like the whole booty thing with the old jlo pic.

I'm not worried at all for TBUP!! People love Jen's Rom-Coms. I think it will be much easier for Jenn to have a comeback in film than in music, especially since it's a Rom-Com. At work people were just listing there fave Jenn movies. The only one no-one brought up was Gigli lol, but everyone brought up TWP, MIM, MIL over and over again. However, none of them said they were anticipating new music expect for my manager but she's a huge Jenny fan lol. Plus I also think this could be Jenn's The Proposal. I can feel it!!!

I was thinking around those numbers for TWP, but I just checked and it was only 13M.

I'm predicting between 17 and 19 for TBUP when released in April. More importantly though I hope it sustains good numbers.

Is there a site that lists the cinemascores? Year before they had a site and you could look, then they made it private, so you could only see the top 5 or 10 that week or something and now you can't see anything.

Holiday Trailer Grades:

"The Back-Up Plan"
Lowdown: Just when Jennifer Lopez gives up on finding the perfect man and decides to get artificially inseminated she finds what she's always been looking for in mysterious stranger Alex O'Loughlin. Can he deal with her new baby on the way? Or, is there more to him that meets the eye?

Grade: B+ Lopez might actually make a comeback with this one. The duo have obvious screen chemistry and it teases that O'Loughlin could be the breakout leading man of the year.
