Even in the hard-bitten 21st century there are few things more likely to get us into cinemas than the prospect of watching two seemingly mismatched people fall in love. Jonathan Ross met Jennifer Lopez to talk about her contribution to movie romance, "Maid in Manhattan".

Jonathan Ross: I enjoyed the film, but I have to be honest, I wasn't surprised by the ending!

Jennifer Lopez: No, I think everyone knows how [romantic comedies] are going to end, it's more about how you get there, how funny the ride is along the way.

It's been a huge hit in the US, what is it that people love about it?

I love romantic comedies, they are my favourite type of movie. I think that's because they make me feel good, they make me laugh, I want to walk out of [the cinema] with a smile on my face...

The movie I think I most enjoyed of yours was "Out of Sight", do you have other grittier films in the pipeline?

Yes, I actually have a couple in the can - they are ready but they haven't come out yet.

Presumably the power that you have now, you could make any film you wanted to, are there personal projects you want to make?

I have a couple that my production company is working on, hopefully we're going to film our first one this year. One is "Carmen", from the short story and the opera. It's not going to be a musical, more the story of it.
