Jennifer Lopez hit with $5M lawsuit over dog assault

A flight attendant claims Jennifer Lopez's guard dog chomped her leg on a plane trip two years ago, and now she wants to take a $5 million bite out of the singer's pocketbook.
Lisa Wilson, 40, filed a suit in Brooklyn Federal Court Thursday, alleging the attack caused her to fall and suffer back injuries that prevent her from working anymore.
The dog-bites-woman tale began July, 3, 2006, when NetJets, a private airline company, assigned Wilson to work a flight taking J.Lo to Burbank Airport in California, the suit says.
Wilson says Lopez boarded a Gulfstream IV jet at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, L.I., with Floyd, a German shepherd described in the manifest as "a well-behaved guard dog."
Just in case, Wilson, of Mary Esther, Fla., says in the court papers, Lopez gave her some instructions on how to act around Floyd.
But the suit alleges that 90 minutes into the flight, Wilson walked past Floyd, and he responded by "attacking her and biting her pant leg."
In an attempt to get away, Wilson says she "twisted and fell," injuring her lower back so badly she had to undergo surgery last year and no longer can work - "at great economic loss."
The suit contends Lopez, who has an estate on Long Island with hubby Marc Anthony and their twins, is "absolutely liable for all injuries" because she "should have known the dog had vicious propensities" and kept it muzzled and leashed.
Wilson also is seeking damages from Lopez's company Nuyorican Productions, based in Los Angeles.
Wilson couldn't be reached, but her lawyer, William Cafaro, said his client wasn't out to capitalize on J.Lo's celebrity and had made attempts to settle the case that were ignored.
Lopez's publicist didn't return a call for comment, and an employee at Nuyorican said only, "We are not obligated" to talk about the suit.

I would love to see her candid response and reactions when she finds out about cases being brought against her.. i think she'd be really ghetto about it,

She mentioned it in one of those VH1 boxset videos. She said they did such a good job with the I'm Glad video that she got sued. She was kinda laughing
about it.

If her guard dog did attack this woman un provoked then I believe Jennifer would've been responsible and taken care of it right away. Smells

To be fair even though you guys now I love Jen it says in the court documents that the woman can never work again. That is probably why the damages are set so high. In arbitration/ dispute resolution they might be brought down. Break Down of Why so high: Can't work again (so living costs and her previous salary until she dies) Medical Bills Special Damages: Additional Compensation - they will probably introduce a psychiatric report saying that the woman has been traumatised by this event. They have sited in the court documents that it has 'aggrivated a quiescent and asymptomatic degenerative changes'. So it has brought on an underlying unoticable medical problem. Unlucky for Jen's side is the fact that this woman had a pre-disposed weakness. (Hence explaining the severity of the incident) This to me doesn't look false, to submit a Particulars of Claim suggests they have evidence to back it up probably from surgeons and doctors specialising in her condition. To answer the question regarding why it takes so long. This to me looks a perfectly reasonable period of time to draw up a claim. The woman would first have to have her treatment and recover to an extent. Find a lawyer and make time to see them. Finalise funding via insurance or legal aid 2 months To get a medical report or source various doctors to generate report costs $100's and can easily take 6-9months in drafting/additional reports. Then to generate a Particulars of Claim outline the case 3 months (each line has to be as clear and accurate as possible) Enter into discussion with Jen's side This to me doesn't look like a case that Jen will win or lose it will then it will be a case of how much she will have to pay out.

I agree that it's Jen's dog, so she should pay for the woman's treatment, if indeed, the woman did nothing to provoke the dog. And that's a big IF. Because if Jennifer told the woman she had to behave in a certain way, she knew the dog could be dangerous. Maybe the lady didn't take her seriously? Who knows. Anyway, $5 million is excessive, I think. But I suppose it depends on how injured the woman is. And if she really can't work. I got the documents from my sources, hehe. No, jk, TMZ had them. But I think they're public record, anyway. |

A lot of these cases are exagerated for money purposes. I mean c'mon lawyers were probably knocking down this women's. door because there was a
celebrity involved. I'm sure Jen took care of any expenses the lady incurred from her injuries plus offered to do more. Somebody put a bug in this
womens's ear that she could possiblky walk away with millions from it.

^ Yeah well a trainee. When Im qualified I want to work in financial/business law. While Im at Law School I work at a firm that deals with these cases for a part-time job. So your getting a professional opinion lol

i understand about how the woman must feel about this.... but i am sure the dog would not just attack especially if it was a german shepard i have a german
shepard myself his name is Rambo lmao x he is a cutie.... wouldnt even hurt a fly... and for jens dog it wouldnt just turn around and bite her leg all of a
sudden... she must of annoyed it or done something wrong for it to have attacked her... and plus jen did warn her that she should like act different around
him, so really the woman should of just stayed away and not gone near it if she didnt know how to respond to him... and really i think she is tryna make money
outa jen because she has lost her job and has seen jen in the paper recently seeing the 5 million she has made from the photo shoot with m&e and is
obiously all of a sudden hoping she will win this so called case getting how much she wants outta it.... it is suspicious how all of a sudden she has brought
it up agen i think
this is what i think anyway, german shepards are harmless really even if they are guard dog you have got to annoy them for it to attack you. its the same with every dog... you have got to set them off first... xx |

What you said about the character of the breed is interesting because if they get a report by a vetinary/dog expert who says German sheperds as a breed are not agresseive (and Floyd isn't) then that will obviously be benficial for Jen's side. I don't know anything about dogs so you would know more than me about the nature of a German Sheperd. Thats the name of the game to prove your case. One interesting thing if it was just a 'nip' on the back of the leg then that wouldn't surfice. So if Jen and other witnesses say that it wasn't a 'bite' that really effects the case. It would be really interesting to see whether there where other witnessess which I suspect there where. A lot will rest on the 'bite' or nature of the 'bite'. They will be looking at the credibilty of the witnessses both Jen, the woman & other witnesses. The courts are really keen on arbitration/dispute settlement because a court case is costly. The judge would push for this. If I was for Jen's side I would try and negotiate that any settlement was confidential. So just because its been filed at court may still mean that it will in effect be settled out of court. Oh yeah last point  I think its probably got to this stage because
Nuyorican haven't paid her medical bills and other costs because like I said above and I think as Heather mentioned they won't agree that it was
floyd's fault.

(So they wouldn't take on cheap crappy cases) I looked up the particular lawyer who is representing the woman in the claim. He qualified in the 1980's meaning he has been qualified a really long time. (Lawyers of this experience and the time of his career wouldn't run with a really small claim his fees would be too high). Someone in his sector and that experience would be earning about $250+ per hour. |

I think German Shepherds can be trained differently. I don't think they are a violent breed by nature, but they are often used in K-9 units and airport security, so they obviously can be a threatening breed if trained to be so. I think though, of all the random crap people sue Jen for, this one at least has some clout, lol. |
