I'd watch this with or without Jen. I remember Nadia talking about how Jen would be great for this role.
I've been hankering
for a good crime flick with a women in the lead for a long time (I can't be the only one who thinks that Catherine Zeta Jones' pregnant drug runner deserved way more screen time in
Traffic). But, in the grand tradition of most crime movies, women are relegated to the sidelines as either 'the downfall of the anti-hero', or, 'sexy
punching bag' -- neither of which is very flattering, but hopefully that will change with Queen of
the South. Varietyreports that Eva Mendes has signed to star in the big screen adaptation of Arturo Perez Reverte's crime novel, La reina del sur (Queen of the South).
The story is being touted as a "female Scarface," and centers on a woman who
flees to Spain when her drug-dealing boyfriend is murdered. Once she arrives, she starts her own narcotics operation to finance revenge against her lover's
murderers -- and quickly becomes top dog. Joining Mendes in the cast are Josh Hartnett
and Ben Kingsley in as-yet unnamed roles.
News of the flick first surfaced last year, with
Mendes, Jennifer Lopez, and Penelope Cruz on the short list for the role, but in the end Mendes won out. Personally I would
have liked to see Lopez take on the role (it's been too long since we had the chance to see her be a bad ass), but I guess in a pinch Mendes will do.
Do you think Warners made the right choice with Mendes? Or is there anyone else out there who would have liked to watch Lopez 'tussle' just one more time?
What a great role that would've been for Jen, that role and the other huge budget superhero movie that Eva is going to be in is going to leave a permanent
mark on Hollywood. Eva is a smart bitch, she's doing rom-coms, drama, action, and male targeted movies. Versatile with her roles, which is what Jen should
be doing, oh well....
I think Jen has been versatile. Very much at the beginning, and now, as of late, she's changed things up. Puchi was definitely different and risky because
she wasn't a likeable character.
yeah that's too bad i would have loved to see Jen in that role, but Eva Mendes is a good choice i don't think Jen would have done all the nudity
requiered for the part but Jen need a role like this one.

I'd still watch Queen of the South. Maybe this will be Eva's breakout role.
And I agree that Jen has been versatile as an actress. She's played a lot of different characters in different genres.
Rom-Com/Comedy
MIM
TWP
MIL
SWD
Gigli
JG
Dramatic (exluding others that fit into different categories)
AE
U-Turn
AUL
Action
Money Train
OOS
Anaconda
The Cell
Bordertown
Enough
First i was sad that El Cantante came only to 6 theatres in here, and only 8 people watched it with me... but then i'm happy that at least it came here, and
my friends like the movie.
Don't you guys think that Jen should take 1 or 2 supporting roles in big studio movies, so it wont be all about her, with a strong cast and an interesting
part since it seem hard for her those last year to have an important part in a studio movie. A couple of actor did that when everything wasn't doing great
in their carrer, a great supporting role could be good for her.

Yes definately although SWD & AUL where ensemble casts.
If she was doing L&OIP & TG I would really like the third movie to be an indie project that is really interesting, failing that I wouldn't mind if
she self funded that Carmen movie and do it under Nuyorican.
edit: I would really lik her to do a movie with Brad Pitt becuase I think the chemistry would work well.
George Clooney would be good but they have already done that so it would be kind of repeating itself.

yeah but her characters wheren't that interesting, i was thinking a role like Sharon Stone in "Casino" Uma Thurman in "Pulp
Fiction" or Marla Singer in "Fight Club" lol. A supporting role but a strong one.

i really wanted this to happen because Craig Pearce wrote the script (+ he wrote it especially for Jen) but now i don't know unless a big name
director directs it i'll be afraid that it turn out bad and it would be terrible for her career even and a big name director doesn't guaranty anything
unless it's Scorsese or Baz Luhrmann

Yeah Uma Thruman's role was really once in a lifetime.
What always surprised me about the role of Marla Singer in FC is that it was offered to Gwen Stefani imagine if she had done it.
I think Oliver Stone could direct Carmen? I do think theough that now Jen has enough power to get a movie made if she wants. She could fund a lot of the movie
through Nuyorican and I am sure with all her knowledge she could find a good director.
dude..didnt no bordertown has been in the air since 2000
April 2, 2000 - Jennifer Lopez is in talks with Selena director Gregory Nava to star in a new film he'll be directing called Bordertown, a thriller in
which a female journalist investigates a string of murders near the American-owned factories on the Juarez and El Paso border.

I think it's be great if Jen were in a studio film with other big actors. Something like Crash. The movie was alright, but the ensemble was great. A
supporting role would be a great way to raise the bar a bit without the pressure.
