i don't think the title would have change much it would have been even worst. They just should have use Puchi interviews to work on the Hector & Puchi
storyline then make research about Hector childhood and Fania to make a much more interesting movie.

I think for the most part people and fans of both Jen and Marc really enjoyed the movie as is. The real issue seemed to be the marketing of the movie about HL
the singer. Critics went into it with that frame of mind. But being that it was told from Puchie's point of view and seemed to be more about Puchie,
critics had real issues with that which did not help the movie at all. I'm just say that given the way the movie was actually done, a title change would
really have made a difference in the way the critics viewed it which would have really given the movie a fair chance. I do agree that keeping with the EC
title, yes the script should have been done differently to reflect that. I said from the beginning that I thought Puchie's character was to dominant in the
movie for what it was supposed to portray.
For me that didn't take away the fact that I really loved and enjoyed the movie because the acting was awesome, both Jen and Marc, imo. The music was great. I think it was one of Jen's best performances as an actress. |

I liked the 2002 scenes, but id rather this move to have been marketed as a story inspired by... rather than biopic. The best thing about the movie was Jen and
then the music, everything else was mediocre- including marcs performance imo.

I think the whole essence of the movie was to demonstrate his electricity as a singer, but moreso show the real Hector, as in; the drug-addicted crappy husband
& father who needed to be sobered up multiple times a day. Basically, the guy behind the mic. Who better to show that then Puchi? At least, that's what
I got from it.
From a success/audience perspective, Hector Lavoe is only known really in Spanish circles and people who know music. Johnny Cash and Ray Charles are known by EVERYONE regardless of their tastes in music, so their life stories were easier to bring to the big screen. It didn't do so well because of the quality or the acting or the marketing, IMO, it was just that not enough people knew who he was. And doing interviews and trying to convince people he's important isn't enough. It kind of reminds me of that movie Kinsey from maybe 5 years ago, I think Liam Neeson played Kinsey himself. Anyways, he's extremely important in the psychology/psychiatric world for his work in sex therapy, but unless you are interested in that subject, it won't matter to you. But I imagine to the people who knew his work and like Liam Neeson, they loved the film. |

Marc wasn't the problem. The script and director were the main issues.
